Meet Cheeky Girl - Little Brambles Sponsor Piggy

Here at Little Brambles we sometimes take in guinea pigs that can't be rehomed, usually for health reasons or perhaps they are elderly and unlikely to find a home. They are given every care possible and are a wonderful addition to our animal family. However, we do not have unlimited resources and we need to think carefully about each guinea pig that will remain here with us. Vet care and feed is expensive and offering a permanent home here has financial implications as well as ensuring we have enough time to look after them all to our high standards. We are an independent rescue, meeting all our own costs. We are not funded but we are very dedicated to providing care for our guinea pigs either on a short or long term basis.

In order to raise money we now have a Sponsorship Scheme operating and welcome anyone wishing to contribute towards our sponsor pig's upkeep. Your donation can be any amount you want, either a one off or a regular payment, you decide. Your name will then be added to the "thank you" list. (see Thank You page) Whilst we would not wish to rely on donations for essentials, we do rely on it for "desirables" for our rescue piggies - all those little extra luxuries a piggy enjoys. ALL of our long term residents and short stay guests will benefit from your kind generosity.

Anyone who sponsors our "Sponsor Pig" is most welcome to contact us for updates on her progress. Thank you for caring. From Louise at LB

Our current sponsor piggy is Cheeky Girl.
She is the lucky girl now responsible for Little Brambles Piggy Purse.

Cheeky Girls's Story

A guinea pig rescue in Southampton received a call in November 2007 from a man who was struggling to cope with his large number of guinea pigs and he wanted them all rehomed. He estimated there were around 70 guinea pigs but wasn't sure. On arrival the rescue discovered 107 guinea pigs – all in poor condition, many pregnant and all housed in dirty, inadequate hutches. The guinea pigs' poor diet coupled with unhygienic conditions meant that many of the guineas needed immediate help and over the following three days all the guinea pigs and hutches were removed. Louise at Little Brambles took in 20 of these guinea pigs and set about the long task of getting them fit, healthy and ready for rehoming. Many of them suffered skin problems but over the following weeks they all improved with the help of medication and regular bathing. They responded well to a good varied diet, supplements of Vitamin C and good quality hay, which is essential for guinea pigs health. They adapted well to their new surroundings and took everything in their stride. They also became used to being handled and soon it was time for them to be off to their new approved homes.

(Including babies, the the final number of guinea pigs that were helped from that one home was 158.
Well done Anna at The Wheek & Squeak Guinea Pig Rescue, Southampton)

Cheeky Girl was part of that group and was just a few months old.

Her skin problem was particularly bad and she needed regular baths and treatment to get it under control. Unfortunately, from time to time her skin condition returns and for this reason she is now a long term resident here at Little Brambles. She doesn't cope well with changes in her environment and she is very settled here. She shares her home with Brokk the handsome neutered boar and she continues to enjoy bossing him about! She plays a full and active part in life here at the rescue and is always part of the welcoming committee when a new piggy arrives.
She loves her grub, especially the fresh herbs we buy for the piggies. She tolerates her regular baths and enjoys her ears being cleaned out too. She takes her lawn mowing duties in the summer time very seriously and she's very proud of her nicely rounded tubby tummy.

And yes, she is definitely VERY cheeky!

Whilst Cheeky does not currently need any veterinary care we like to ensure she is provided with the very best of everything we can afford. Naturally extra veggies/herbs but also many of the lovely Oxbow hays that are very nutritious but sadly are quite expensive. All the rescue guinea pigs here get Oxbow Timothy/Orchard Hay as often as we can afford it. We also like to provide Cheeky with good quality shampoo and because of her numerous baths she has her own fluffy white towel collection too!

All monies donated go directly towards all our long term residents. Your generosity makes all the difference to the lives of many piggies. Thank you.

Donations through PAYPAL can be made directly on this site, just go to " Make a Donation ". If you would prefer to send a cheque please email us for our address details.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A GIFT FOR FAMILY OR A FRIEND?

Our Sponsorship Scheme includes a 'gift of a donation' to the rescue. On your behalf, we can send a birthday or other occasion greeting card to anyone here in the UK.

The recipient will receive a card from LB with a small photo of our current sponsor pig, a little bit about him/her, a record of the amount donated, a thank you and a greetings message from the sender/donator. If you would like to buy a donation gift for a friend/family member please email the rescue with the details and the rescue will contact you asap.

Anyone who sponsors is most welcome to contact the rescue at any time for an update on their progress.
